The Folk Art of Herman Thompson

Herman Thompson is a one-of-a kind great folk artist, and his work is never for sale ! His older work is made up from scrap sheet metal, welded and spray painted. The fish pictured here are a mainstay, he also has huge elaborate animals and even dinosaurs of sheet metal and junk. More recently he has been using coat hanger wire twisted into the elaborate animals, carriages and farm equipment.

I see Herman every year as the SC State Museum and always enjoy talking with him, a real genuine nice guy and unique character. He will not sell any pieces, he says his brothers and sisters took some, so he needs to build his collection more to show off. I have been hearing this for 5 years.

This guy must have a great yard !
