Airplane Gas Station

In 1930 in Powell TN a couple of brothers decided to build a gas station that looked like an airplane in order to attract attention. The newly widened highway and Elmer and Henry Nickel's love of flying created one of the greatest roadside attractions that survives today.
This place pumped gas until 1960 and it is really a miracle that some fool or the county have not torn this jewel down. Now a group has formed to help restore it. Look at this website, some of the great info and considering making a donation to the group.
I have been by the Powell airplane several times and it is in better condition each time. These photos are from my first visit several years ago. Sometime I will post the newest photos.
